What is it and how does it work?
BATS Theatre Company’s Mystery Musical Mayhem is a mystery show exclusively for for our senior youth and young adult cast. We’ll find out the show on the first Sunday of the school holidays, rehearse Monday-Thursday, then perform three shows on the Thursday evening, Friday afternoon, and Friday evening (we’ll provide a full break down of rehearsal prior to auditions). We’ve included the word ‘mayhem’ in the title for a reason – it’s going to be chaotic but so much fun!
How does the ‘mystery show’ aspect work?
Only a select group of people know the show and they’re sworn to secrecy! The show has been chosen and those people think it will be a great one for everyone involved.
Does the core production team know the show?
Nope!
Seriously?
Definitely! We want to make this a surprise for everyone involved.
Can I suggest a show? Or bribe anyone to pick a show that I want?
The short answer is no. The long answer is, you can try bribing but you won’t achieve anything! The show has already been chosen and is locked in.
What if I don’t like the show or the part that I get? Or what if I’m in the ensemble but I really wanted a part?
“You get what you get and you don’t get upset!”
This is part of the challenge of this kind of show. Because none of us know what the show will be, we can’t think that it’s going to be one of our favourites otherwise we’ll probably be disappointed. And if it does happen to be one of our favourites, that’s an added bonus!
When it comes to parts and ensemble, everyone who auditions does so accepting that they will be in the ensemble and may not get a solo part.
If you decide to withdraw after the show/parts are announced, your fees will not be refunded.
What do I need to prepare for auditions?
Stay tuned – we’ll provide all that information soon.
What is the age range for people auditioning for the show?
This is for cast ages 14 and up.
Will everyone who auditions be in the show?
Not necessarily. We could have 300 people audition which means it would be very squishy on the stage if we put everyone in the show! We will, however, let everyone know after the auditions are finished if they will be in the show.
What if I’m not sure if I can learn lines, blocking and choreography in such a short amount of time?
It will definitely be a challenge, however we have a few tricks we’re working on to help with lines, and we’ll be designing the blocking and choreography so it’s easy to learn.
Got any other questions? Don’t worry, we’ll release plenty of info closer to auditions, or you can use the form on our Contact Us page to send us a message.
